South Yorkshire Schools and Youth Hockey Junior Academy Centres (JACs) 21st of December, 2009 David WoodwardFollowing their involvement in the local Junior Development Centre or other hockey activity, we are pleased to inform of players selected to attend the JACs. Details of the sessions are given below.
Because of the high standard of the players and numbers involved there will be an assessment procedure at the end of six weeks of development work after which the Academy squads will be chosen for each age group to attend the remaining sessions. The Under 12 and 13 age groups will be assessed after 4 sessions. It is particularly important that all of the sessions are attended because they will be run on a tight programme and we do not want players to miss any vital coaching sections.
There are three competition dates for each of the Under 13, 14, 15, 16 and 17 squads, both boys and girls. The SYHDG will be organising separate fixtures for the Under 12 age groups as not all Junior Development Centres in the North are coaching at this age group.
There will be JAC activities at the following age groups:
Boys and Girls at Under 12, 13, 14, 15, 16 and 17. (12 groups).
- The sessions for the Under 12 and 13 age groups for both boys and girls will be held on Sunday afternoons at Firth Rixson Aurora Sports Ground, Bawtry Road, Rotherham. S60 5ND.
- All other boys groups will be on Friday evenings at Doncaster Town Field Sports Club, Bennetthorpe, Doncaster DN2 6AA.
- All other girls groups will also be on Friday evenings at Abbeydale Sports Ground, Abbeydale Road South, Totley, Sheffield S17 3LJ.
- All sessions will be 2 hours duration and will cost £4 for each session. If paid up front it will cost £20 for the first 6 sessions or, for the two younger age groups, £12 for the first 4 sessions. After these and for the tournaments the cost will be £4 per session.
- All participants should arrive no later than 15 minutes before the start of their session for administration and warm up.
- If a player did not register at their local JDC they will have to provide a signed "Registration and Parental Consent Form". If they do not we are not allowed to coach them. Spare forms will be available at the first session you attend or players will be able to obtain one from their local JDC coach. You can also download a form here.
- South Yorkshire Hockey Development Group has appointed all the coaches for the JACs. They are all qualified, insured and hold an enhanced CRB clearance certificate.
- The South Yorkshire Hockey Junior Academy Centres (JACs) are County status.
- At the tournaments for the Under 13, 14, 15, 16 & 17 age groups selectors will be looking for potential players to go forward to the Junior Regional Performance Centre (JRPC), which will start in the summer of 2010.
- We hope that the JAC activities will be enjoyable and that the coaching will be beneficial. This is the second year of the JAC programme and we have appointed a number of experienced coaches who will be working to EH guidelines.
